synopsis follows. Rollerball (2002) is an action and sport adventure, from the
Russian side of the world. In the
Russian side of the world, there is a new sport and league. Coincidentally, the sport and league are both
called, Rollerball. Furthermore; an
American and ex-NHL hockey player has been successfully recruited, to be part
of a team that, is located in Central Asia. The player’s name is, Jonathan Cross. Additionally, Jonathan Cross becomes the
second American player on the team.
Coincidentally, the other American on the team, is his childhood friend;
Marcus Ridley. Jonathan Cross quickly
becomes the star, and, the favorite of the team’s owner. Unfortunately, the good times quickly
end. During a match, a teammate is
severely beaten. Cross, Ridley and the
other teammates suspect sabotage. The
more that they talk about this incident, the more they feel that, they cannot
escape a dangerous situation. At the
same time, the other parts of Rollerball are very good and exciting. For example, all of the players live
expensive and luxurious lives.
Furthermore, they also party at nightclubs after the match. During an away match, Aurora, is involved in
a violent incident. It results that,
this latest incident is too much for Ridley and Cross. Additionally, Ridley and Cross, begin to
execute their escape plan. The escape,
is also, leaving the Russian side of the world, through, the Country of Russia. Director, John McTiernan, does a good
job. To start, the heavy metal rock and
roll music, definitely, makes this movie a cool adventure. Second, everything about this movie is a cool
adventure, for 1 hour and 38 minutes.
The writers do an equally good job.
The world of Rollerball, appears and feels complete. Additionally, the interaction between the
characters is well written. The
officially recognized stars contribute tremendously. They would be missed, if they were not
chosen. Special recognition is merited
to Rebecca Romijn. Overall, Rollerball (2002) earns the rating of 7
out of 10.
The
movie narrative of, Rollerball (2002),
is as follows. In the City of San
Francisco, California U.S.A., a man named Jonathan Cross arrives at the top of
a large hill. There are photographers
present, and, they are on motorcycles.
Jonathan Cross is a contestant in an illegal race that, involves a large
skateboard. The large skateboard,
requires the rider to lie down on his or her back, in order, to ride it. There are thrilling scenes of racing through
the streets, of San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the police start to chase the
riders or contestants. Out of nowhere, a
man named, Marcus Ridley, appears to rescue Cross. Ridley pulls Cross, into his car. It results that, they know each other since
childhood. Furthermore, Cross is an
ex-NHL hockey player. Ridley, is also, a
professional athlete in a sport called, Rollerball. The league is in, the Russian side of the
world. Ridley talks to Cross, about
playing in the league. The scene changes
and it is Central Asia; the Russian side of the
world. Everyone speaks Russian, and the,
Rollerball Arena is being readied for a match.
The match is accompanied by a complete television production broadcast,
and, heavy metal rock and roll music.
The match is close to starting, and, Jonathan Cross; is the new star of
the team. Furthermore, the owner of the
team is named Alexis Petrovich, and it appears as if, Cross is his
favorite. Ridley is one of his
teammates. Rollerball is a violent sport
that, has players on roller blades and riding a motorcycle. Everyone rides around the track. The objective is to put an alloy ball into a
small goal, in order, to score a point.
In order for the point to count, the player has to maintain possession
of the ball, for two complete turns around the track. The match starts, and, Cross quickly scores
in 12 seconds. The match continues, and,
there is a lot of gambling action.
Everything appears to be Russian culture, but, the players are from
different parts of the world. The
television broadcast crews constantly monitor; the amount of viewers that are
watching, or, the television ratings.
During the match, one of Cross’s teammates is brutally beaten. The match ends, and, the press is everywhere. The team leaves to party, in expensive luxury
cars. The team’s bodyguards follow their
every step. The team parties at a
nightclub. At the nightclub, some
teammates discuss possible sabotage of their equipment. Everyone speaks Russian. Cross attempts to talk to Petrovich, about
the sabotaged equipment. Cross decides
to return to the arena. A teammate, who
is a woman named Aurora, is still
in the locker room. It results that,
Cross and Aurora have a sexual
relationship, in secret. After the sex,
Cross and Aurora discuss the beating of their teammate. They leave the arena, but, they encounter a
large protest on the streets. Cross has
to leave his car behind, and, it gets set on fire. Cross and Aurora
travel to a dilapidated apartment, to be able, to see a man named Sergei. Unexpectedly, they are attacked by an unknown
man at Sergei’s apartment. Luckily,
Cross and Aurora are able to escape
the attack, and, the apartment. The team
departs to an away match, on an airplane.
While flying in the airplane, Cross talks to Ridley about, what happened
the night before. The team arrives at
the arena, and, they start to prepare for the match. Petrovich has a violent altercation with
someone, outside of the arena. The match
becomes violent in a confusing way. The
match ends, and, Cross and Ridley talk to the press. The team travels to Mongolia,
and, everyone speaks Chinese. The
players start to feel confused about, what is happening around them. This match becomes confusing in a violent
way. During the match, an opposing
player cuts the fuel hose, on Aurora’s
motorcycle. Additionally, the player
sets the gasoline on fire. The fire
travels, and it sets, Aurora’s
motorcycle on fire. Ridley pulls her off
the motorcycle, and, rescues her.
Unfortunately, Ridley crashes his motorcycle, and, he is severely
injured. Ridley is in the hospital, and,
Petrovich goes to see him. At the
hospital, some of the players decide to leave, the Russian side of the
world. They make their plans with
Ridley. They have readied their
passports, and, money. They make plans
to escape to Russia,
first. Aurora,
and, the other teammate cancel their intention to escape. It results that, it is only going to be
Ridley and Cross, executing the escape plan.
From this point forward; the series of events, take the viewer, to the
end. Regrettably, the escape attempt
fails. Finally; you have to watch, in
order to know, how this movie ends.
The
