Movie Narrative: Possums (1998)


The captivation of moving pictures is a source of tremendous inspiration.  For this reason and many more, RB28’s Movie Narratives, continues showing its love for movies with another movie narrative.  This week, Possums (1998), will be converted into a narrative and subsequently highlighted.  It is implied that the blog reader reads the movie narrative, and then, he or she watches the movie.  The effort is to give the blog reader, an enhanced experience.  RB28’s Movie Narratives, ends this movie narrative of Possums (1998), with some Hollywood facts.

            The synopsis follows.  Possums (1998) is a high school football movie, out of the State of Okalahoma.  In Nowata, Oklahoma U.S.A., Wilbur “Will” Clark is a middle-aged man.  Clark is the play by play announcer, for the Possums.  The Possums are playing a game against Prattville.  The Possums lose the game in typical fashion.  The score is, Prattville 72 and the Possums 0.  Clark officially ends the football season of the Possums, and, the Town of Nowata returns to normal.  Clark is also the owner of the hardware store.  One day; Clark drinks coffee, outside the hardware store, with 3 other men.  Clark starts talking about the Possums high school football team.  Apparently, the Possums haven’t scored a touchdown, in 13 years.  Furthermore, Clark is excited about next year’s team.  London, is one of the 3 other men.  Unexpectedly, London reveals bad news to Clark.  London says that, the mayor is planning to end the high school football team.  Therefore, there isn’t going to be a team, for next year.  Clark becomes angry, and, he leaves the store.  Clark arrives at the high school.  Surprisingly, he finds Mayor Lawton.  Mayor Lawton admits his plans.  However, it is only in the petition phase.  Mayor Lawton and Clark argue with each other.  The two men agree to continue arguing, when the day of the vote arrives.  At the vote, Clark gives a speech.  The speech is in favor, of the Possums high school football team.  Clark begs the people, to keep the Possums.  Unexpectedly, a player of the Possums, gives a speech.  The player is in favor of ending the Possums high school football team.  Mayor Lawton is excited about his victory; before the vote.  Unanimously, the people of Nowata, Oklahoma U.S.A., vote to end the Possums high school football team.  One night, Clark enters the radio station.  Clark improvises a fictitious Possums football game.  Unexpectedly, the town likes what they hear.  Furthermore, they start to make telephone calls to the radio station.  Clark and the radio station, make an agreement.  Clark will pay for the radio time, and, Clark can continue to announce fictitious Possums football games.  Clark gives the Possums a fictitious winning season.  Additionally, the Possums win fictitious playoff games.  Ultimately, the Possums win a fictitious State Championship Game, against Prattville.  In real life, the Prattville head coach, and, Clark have a confrontation with each other.  A real football game, between the Possums and Prattville, has to be played.  Director, Max Burnett/J. Max Burnett, does a good job.  This simple story has a lot of entertainment value.  There is nothing fancy, about, this movie.  However, everything about this movie works.  Additionally, the town, itself, adds a lot of charm.  The writer, Max Burnett/J. Max Burnett, does an equally good job.  The story is well written.  Furthermore, the conversations between the men, are also, engaging and interesting.  The Mayor Lawton character is a good twist to things.  The officially recognized stars contribute tremendously.  They would be missed, if they were not chosen.  Special recognition is merited to Mac Davis for the Wilbur “Will” Clark character.  Overall, Possums (1998) earns the rating of 7 out of 10. 
            The movie narrative of, Possums (1998), is as follows.  A boy plays with football figurines.  The boy also does the play by play announcing.  The boy is doing the announcing for the Possums; the local high school football team.  The boy is named Wilbur “Will” Clark.  Clark’s parents pull him away; the play by play announcing ends.  The scene changes.  The real Possums, high school football team, are on the field.  Several decades later, Wilbur “Will” Clark is a middle-aged man.  Clark is the play by play announcer, for the Possums.  The town is Nowata, Oklahoma U.S.A.  The Possums are playing a game against Prattville.  The Possums lose the game in typical fashion.  The score is, Prattville 72 and the Possums 0.  Clark officially ends the football season of the Possums, and, the Town of Nowata returns to normal.  One day, a man delivers the newspaper, as usual.  The man continues to deliver newspapers, and, Clark watches from his kitchen window.  Clark’s wife is late for work.  Clark’s wife is the Vice Principal, of the high school.  They also talk about their son, John.  John is grown up and has left the house.  Unexpectedly, Mayor Charlie Lawton arrives with his dog.  Lawton is the Mayor of Nowata.  Lawton’s dog poops on Clark’s front yard.  Clark runs out, and, he shouts at Lawton.  Lawton doesn’t know, what Clark is talking about.  Lawton returns to his house.  Clark is also the owner of the hardware store.  Clark drinks coffee, outside the hardware store, with 3 other men.  Clark starts talking about the Possums high school football team.  Apparently, the Possums haven’t scored a touchdown in 13 years.  Furthermore, Clark is excited about next year’s team.  London, is one of the 3 other men.  Unexpectedly, London reveals bad news to Clark.  London says that, the Mayor is planning to end the high school football team.  Therefore, there isn’t going to be a team, for next year.  Clark becomes angry, and, he leaves the store.  Bob is left to be in charge, of the store.  Bob is one of the three men.  Clark arrives at the high school.  Surprisingly, he finds Mayor Lawton.  Mayor Lawton admits his plans.  However, it is only in the petition phase.  Mayor Lawton and Clark argue with each other.  The two men agree to continue arguing, when the day of the vote arrives.  Clark leaves the high school.  People sign the petition, to end the Possums high school football team, on the sidewalk.  Clark conducts a one person protest, in front of the petition table.  Clark passes out flyers to people.  The flyer says, save the Possums.  Surprisingly, the coach of the Possums, signs the petition to end the Possums football team.  Unexpectedly, Clark’s friends sign the petition to end the football team.  The friends are London, Bob and another man.  Clark puts up a sign, in front of his store.  The sign is in favor of the Possums football team.  London, Bob and two other men watch Clark; from the other side of the street.  Inside the hardware store, Clark feels depressed.  At his house, Clark argues with his wife.  At the vote, Clark gives a speech.  The speech is in favor, of the Possums high school football team.  Clark begs the people, to keep the Possums.  Unexpectedly, a player of the Possums, gives a speech.  The player is in favor of ending the Possums high school football team.  Mayor Lawton is excited about his victory; before the vote.  Unanimously, the people of Nowata Oklahoma, vote to end the Possums high school football team.  Only 7 people voted to keep the Possums, playing high school football.  Clark and his wife leave the meeting.  A teenage boy chases after Clark.  The teenage boy apologizes to Clark, because, he couldn’t vote.  However, he would have voted to keep the Possums football team.  One year later, and, during the autumn.  A man delivers the newspapers, as usual.  This time his motorcycle won’t start.  Therefore, he does it running.  At his house, Clark has a hard time getting out of bed.  Clark’s wife wants Clark, to get out of bed.  Clark thinks about the high school football season.  The town and high school, forget about the Possums high school football team.  In class, Jake meets Sarah.  Jake is the teenage boy, from the meeting.  London, Bob and the other man talk in front of Clark’s hardware store.  They also talk about the plans to demolish the football stadium.  A store is going to be built, in its place.  Jake talks to Clark about a job, at the hardware store.  Clark says that, he doesn’t have jobs.  Clark drives around the town.  Clark arrives at the high school stadium.  Surprisingly, Clark finds Jake there.  Jake plays football, by himself.  Clark turns on the lights, of the high school stadium.  Jake is a big fan, of the team.  Jake and Clark talk about things.  Jake is new to the town; about 1 year.  They start to talk about football.  Clark tells Jake, to get in his truck.  The Town of Nowata, Oklahoma U.S.A., quietly passes time.  Unexpectedly, Clark takes over the town’s radio station.  Clark begins to announce, through the radio, a fictitious Possums football game.  The town stops to listen.  Unexpectedly, the radio station manager arrives to stop Clark.  The radio station is named, KRIG.  Surprisingly, people begin to call the KRIG radio station.  Apparently, the people like what they are hearing.  Clark continues announcing the fictitious game.  At the end of the night, Clark continues to argue with the radio station manager.  Additionally, Clark says that, he will pay for everything.  Reluctantly, the radio station manager agrees.  The radio station manager is named, Earl.  Before he leaves, Clark surprises Jake with a job, at the hardware store.  Clark tells Jake the time, in which to report, for work.  Surprisingly, the hardware store doesn’t have clients, this day.  At the end of the work day, Clark invites Jake, to go out and eat.  Surprisingly, Clark’s friends are at the restaurant.  They laugh about Clark’s fictitious game.  Jake’s mother is the server.  Unexpectedly, Mayor Lawton arrives, with his wife.  Mayor Lawton talks to Clark, about, the fictitious game.  Mayor Lawton says that, he is not happy.  Mayor Lawton asks Clark, to stop.  Clark says, no.  Mayor Lawton says, okay.  Jake and Clark start talking football.  At the high school, Jake and Clark watch the players, from the previous year.  They also take notes.  Clark announces a second fictitious Possums game, through the radio.  The people turn off the radio.  Jake and Clark record sound effects, for the fictitious Possums games.  Clark continues announcing fictitious Possums football games.  The people start to listen to the fictitious games.  Clark continues with the fictitious Possums football games.  The people of Nowata, Oklahoma, listen to the fictitious games.  At his office, Mayor Lawton receives complaints, about the fictitious football games.  Mayor Lawton sits down to do work.  At the hardware store, Jake talks to Sarah.  At his office, Mayor Lawton and Earl talk.  Mayor Lawton shares his recent problems, with Earl.  Apparently, Clark’s fictitious Possums, high school football team, have a winning season.  The mayors, of the other towns, have called to complain about the winning season.  Earl isn’t concerned.  Mayor Lawton asks Earl, to stop Clark.  Earl says, no.  Clark continues announcing fictitious Possums games.  The high school starts to like the fictitious games.  Sarah starts to notice Jake; romantically.  At the hardware store, Jake and Clark talk.  Clark shares that, he has a 27 year old son.  Furthermore, his son used to be, a big high school football star.  Currently, his son is an assistant high school football coach.  During high school, Clark’s son injured his knee.  Clark convinced his son, to play.  Clark’s son permanently injured his knee.  Clark and Jake start to play football.  Jake is reluctant to play, because, he doesn’t like to get hit.  Clark tackles Jake, and, Jake becomes angry.  Jake leaves, and, Clark’s wife arrives.  Apparently, Clark applied for a business loan.  Clark’s wife wants to know, about, the business loan.  At his house, Clark apologizes for the business loan.  Unfortunately, Clark’s wife packs her luggage.  The business loan, is so that, Clark can continue to announce fictitious Possums games; through the radio.  Clark’s wife is angry at Clark.  Clark’s wife feels that, Clark is throwing everything away.  Clark says that, he will leave the house.  Clark’s wife agrees with Clark.  Clark continues announcing fictitious Possums football games.  At the high school stadium, Jake passes time.  At a restaurant, the men talk about, the fictitious football games.  At the high school, Sarah and Jake agree to go out, on a date.  Unexpectedly, students confront Jake.  Jake runs to Clark’s hardware store.  London, Bob and the other man tell Jake that the store is closed.  Jake tells the men, about, the confrontation.  Apparently, the real ex-football players confronted Jake, because, they love the games.  They start talking about Clark, being in a mid-life crisis.  Clark arrives at the high school stadium.  Surprisingly, several players are conducting an independent practice session.  Clark leaves, and, the fictitious football games continue to be announced.  At the high school, Jake and other students re-create, the football game that is being announced on the radio.  Unexpectedly, Clark is there watching.  Apparently, this game is a taped radio broadcast.  Clark also talks to the newspaper delivery man.  Surprisingly, Clark’s wife listens to the radio broadcast.  Apparently, for this game, the Possums are in the playoffs.  Clark arrives at his house.  Clark tells his wife that, he is going to stop.  Clark’s wife tells Clark, to continue, with the fictitious high school football season.  Jake is on the date, with Sarah.  London, Bob and the other man pass time in front of Clark’s hardware store.  Clark and Jake join the men.  Jake passes out coffee.  Unexpectedly, Mayor Lawton arrives to yell at Clark.  Additionally, Mayor Lawton warns Clark.  Time passes, and, Clark attends a fictitious pep rally; for the Possums high school football team.  The town prepares for the fictitious playoffs.  Apparently, the winning season continues.  The Possums, from Nowata, have reached the State Championship Game.  The television news, reports on both, State Championship Games.  Obviously; one is the real game, and the other, is the fictitious game.  Clark announces the fictitious State Championship Game.  The town listens to the radio broadcast.  The opponent is Prattville.  The Possums win the fictitious State Championship Game.  From this point forward; the series of events, take the viewer, to the end.  The real, Prattville high school football team, confronts Clark.  Apparently, the real Prattville team won the real State Championship Game, against another opponent.  Clark and the Prattville head coach agree to a real game, in order, to settle their differences.  Clark’s son arrives, and, he coaches the Possums.  Finally; you have to watch, in order to know, how this movie ends.
