The
synopsis follows. Middle Men (2009) is an interesting story, about the birth of
internet pornography. In the U.S.A.,
the series of events that creates the modern day internet pornography, started
in the year 1997. In 1997, Frank Harris
is living in Houston, Texas
U.S.A. Additionally, Buck Dolby and Wayne Beering
are living in Los Angeles, California
U.S.A. Harris worked for a man that, collected money
for organized crime, when he was younger.
Buck Dolby worked for NASA, whilst, Wayne Beering was a
veterinarian. Harris goes to Los
Angeles, to help a friend manage a nightclub. The nightclub effort becomes,
successful. Dolby and Beering are
already in Los Angeles, and, they
decide to invent a credit card payment method for the internet. Dolby and Beering are successful in their
effort. Furthermore, they decide to
start an internet website that, shows pornography to go along with the credit
card payment method. Unfortunately, they
run out of pornographic content for their website. Dolby and Beering decide to go to Russian
organized crime, in order, to make more pornographic content for their
website. Regrettably, both of them
forget that they have to pay 25% of the profits, to the Russians. Needless to say, in a short amount of time,
they owe the Russians a lot of money. At
this time, a crooked attorney named Haggerty, asks Harris to step in and
help. Harris agrees to be involved in
the business. Under Harris’s management,
the business becomes a payment method service provider. Furthermore, they make websites for the
pornography industry. Needless to say;
their business booms, and, they become very wealthy people. Unfortunately, when they got started with the
new business idea Harris, Dolby and Beering killed the nephew of the Russian
crime boss; Ivan Sokoloff. The good
times don’t last long, and, the Russians find out what happened to Ivan. Director, George Gallo, does a fantastic job
directing this movie. The action is
slow, but, everything is coherent and understandable. Additionally, the story is a very good story. The writers, George Gallo and Andy Weiss, do
an equally fantastic job writing this story.
Furthermore, the Buck Dolby and Wayne Beering characters, are well
written. The officially recognized stars
contribute tremendously. They would be
missed, if they were not chosen. Special
recognition is merited to Luke Wilson, for the Jack Harris character. Overall, Middle
Men (2009) earns the rating of 7 out of 10.
The
movie narrative of, Middle Men (2009),
is as follows. Jack Harris narrates, how
he owes millions to Russian organized crime.
Furthermore, Harris also narrates, how he helped create internet
pornography. The year is 2004. The scene changes, and, it is Houston
in the year 1988. Harris is a young man,
and, he proposes marriage to his girlfriend; she says yes. In Los Angeles,
and in the year 1997; two men are friends, and, they live together. Furthermore, they argue all the time, and,
heavily use cocaine. Wayne Beering, was
the first to move to, and, live in Los Angeles. Buck Dolby moves to Los
Angeles sometime later, and, he lives with his friend
Beering. Surprisingly, the two were not
complete losers, before the year 1997.
Dolby worked for NASA, whilst, Beering was a veterinarian. In 1997, Harris is living in Houston,
Texas U.S.A. A family friend asks Harris, if, he can go to
Los Angeles to help manage a
nightclub. Harris made friends and met
different types of people, when he worked for a man that collected money for
organized crime. The scene changes, and,
it is Houston in the year
1997. Harris is at the airport, and, he
departs to Los Angeles California,
U.S.A. Dolby and Beering are in their apartment
using cocaine, and, talking about internet pornography. At that time, there wasn’t a credit card
payment method available, for the internet.
Beering wants to create a website, and, upload pornography to it. Additionally, he wants to invent a credit
card payment method, for his website.
Dolby is a computer genius, and, he sits down to invent a credit card
payment method. A few days pass, and
finally, they make their first $9.99 USD.
Harris is in Los Angeles,
with another friend named James, managing the nightclub. Regrettably, Dolby and Beering quickly run
out of pornographic content, for their website.
Nikita Sokoloff, is the boss for Russian organized crime in Los
Angeles. Dolby
and Beering have the idea of taking pictures and video, of exotic dancers at
Sokoloff’s strip club. After some
initial trouble, they get to meet Sokoloff.
After more initial trouble, Sokoloff agrees to let them take pictures
and video. They quickly forget that,
they have to pay Sokoloff a percentage of the profits; 25% to be exact. The pornography website enters a boom, with
the new pornographic content.
Furthermore, Dolby quits his job.
The website starts to make $25,000 dollars a day. Dolby and Beering leave to party in Las
Vegas, Nevada U.S.A. Harris, is also, successful managing the
nightclub. A crooked attorney named
Haggerty, invites Harris to Las Vegas
to discuss business. Haggerty is Dolby
and Beering’s attorney. Apparently,
Dolby and Harris didn’t pay the Russians.
Furthermore, they found them in Las Vegas
and beat them up. They are also locked
down in their hotel suite, and, they won’t leave. Haggerty asks Harris; to fix the Russian
problem, and then, fix the business side of the website. Harris goes to see them, at their hotel
room. Dolby and Beering are heavily
using cocaine, and, they are out of their minds. They talk about the website. Harris decides to change the nature, of the
business. Dolby and Beering, will stop
being content providers of pornography.
Instead, the business will become a service provider for the payment
method that, they invented. Furthermore,
they will stay in the pornography industry, and, they will create websites for
other pornography content providers.
Harris decides to buy out, Haggerty.
Haggerty is paid $200,000 USD.
Harris talks to the Russians, and, he arranges to pay $400,000 USD. Sokoloff sends his nephew Ivan Sokoloff, to
collect the money. James is there as
muscle. Additionally and regrettably; he
punches Ivan, and, Ivan accidentally dies.
The group uses a boat, and, they throw the body into the Pacific
Ocean. They agree to the
story that Ivan was paid, and then, he left with the money. No one knows more from there. Harris leaves to Houston,
to be able, to see his wife and his family.
Harris finally tells his wife that, he is in the pornography
business. Harris arrives in Los
Angeles, and, quickly discovers that the Russians are
waiting for him. James is also there
along with other men that, are muscle.
Harris gets in the car with the Russians, and, James follows. The Russians discover that, they are being
followed and they beat up Harris. It
results that, the Russians are looking for Ivan Sokoloff. Harris is about to be killed, when, James
arrives to help. Sokoloff tells Harris
that, he has to pay double the amount every month, but, nothing is
forgiven. Harris agrees to pay the new
amount. The new business enters a boom,
and, they start to do business with almost everyone in the pornography
industry. The year is 1998, and, Harris
starts to live the life of a millionaire.
Time passes, and, it is 5 years later.
Harris, Dolby and Beering attend a big celebration in Las
Vegas that; is put on by the pornography
industry. At the celebration, Harris
meets an adult film star named Audrey Dawns.
Additionally, Haggerty attends the celebration, and he, confronts Harris
about being pushed out of the business several years back. Haggerty is still angry after confronting
Harris, and he decides, to pull Dolby and Beering to the side. They talk about starting a new pornography
website. Denny Z, is also, part of the
group and conversation. Around this
time, Harris becomes the owner of the nightclub, he managed. Furthermore, he starts to date Audrey
Dawns. Harris and his wife become
separated, and, they don’t have a relationship anymore. Harris starts to progress his romantic
relationship with Audrey Dawns. One day,
Sokoloff sees Harris and Audrey, at a horse race track. Harris goes to talk to him. Immediately, Sokoloff tells Harris that, the
F.B.I. is following him. Furthermore, he
learns from Sokoloff that, Audrey was a stripper at one of his strip
clubs. Audrey tells Harris that,
Haggerty is Sokoloff’s attorney. Harris
confronts Haggerty, about being Sokoloff’s attorney. From this point forward; the series of
events, take the viewer, to the end.
Regrettably, Harris’s romantic relationship with Audrey ends. Additionally, it doesn’t end in a pleasant
way. Russian organized crime discovers
the truth, about Ivan Sokoloff. Finally;
you have to watch, in order to know, how this movie ends.
The
